ABOUT US, THE INNOVATORS, RE-INVENTERS OF THE MERE HORSEFLOAT, HORSE RIDERS AND REAL HORSE PEOPLE:

  • David and Tracy Writer of Writco Horsefloats pride themselves on being innovators in the horsefloat industry, producing an uncompromised, quality horsefloat, with workmanship and attention to detail second to none! Bringing new, easy to use, and innovative ideas to the mere horsefloat, is a passion and a desire we have. This then ensures our floats are the best they can be with new ideas, and components to ensure horses and people have fun and be safe when floating.
  • Be assured when buying a Writco, you have the backing and expertise of more than 30 years, in the heavy machinery industry, and a family history of innovations dating back to the very first 1/2 fibreglass roof, more than 30 years ago!!! So now the tradition goes on, with innovations, being world first and simple to use.
  • We insist our floats are built using the best components for the task, with suppliers having to have quality
  • assurance of their products, to be put into our product, with workmanship of the highest standard to ensure a well finished, structually safe and sound float.
  • We have a desire and passion to build floats that will lift the quality of horse floats in this country, and unlike most manufacturers, we are not building floats to just create a job for ourselves and are keeping them Australian made, unlike some now who are looking at getting their floats made in China. What will happen to quality controls, materials used, or even a care to build a safe product for Australian horse people when these floats are brought into our country?
  • Our most basic float, is not basic by some others standards, and we will never produce these "Budget or Economy" models flooding the market. We believe these floats are highly questionable, and sadly due to inexperience or budget of shoppers, these floats are being sold with their second hand tyres, thin structual steel, and inferior components from who knows where. Be wary of cheap, there is a reason they are, not just due to the fact they have no inclusions!!
  • Our suspension is of the same standard used in the transportation industry, load sharing, and this then points to the fact, if this rubber cush bar, or torsion suspension is so great, why has this huge industry not adopted this system? All this suspension can boast is cheapness and easy to install, but which we liken to riding in a box trailer, where incidently, this system originated, with cargo which is not alive, does not move once it is strapped down with ropes or load binders. Great for horses? We think not!!!
  • We are one of the few manufacturers in Australia to use hardwood boards in our floors, 25-30mm thick and is one piece from front to rear. We leave a gap for moisture to release. No matter what name, rating or class, ply is just strips of timber, glued together. Once the material is compromised with a screw to attach it to the chassis, water can penetrate and thus the rotting process has started even before a horse has been in it! We do not know of any ply supplier who will warranty their ply when used in a horsefloat, where urine and manure are common, if my horses are anything to go by. More and more ply is imported now and the material used is not like "the old days".
  • We are the only manufacturer who rust proofs using an industrial strength product, coating the full chassis, behind kickboards, stoneguards, and any components we add on, even clearance lights!! We use only stainless washers and dome nuts on the external sides of the floats, with aluminium sealed rivets for stoneguard, and the roof. All panels are welded, and all welded joins in the steel are protected by a galvanising paint we apply. We seal, sand, and wash the floats prior to the powdercoating process.
  • We are the only company to re-invent, build on, and enhance the mere horsefloat, to be easy to use, practical and smart.
  • Though we know some people will say, "A float is just a float" are you willing to put your priceless, irreplaceable, friend or companion in a float costing $6000.00? Floats may all look the same, but as the old saying goes" proof is in the pudding" when 5 years down the track, or in some cases we know of personally much much sooner, your "new" float fails or is falling apart with it rusting away.
  • Is it worth the risk?
  • Our floats are made to ensure they are a pleasure to use, with ideas which are designed and used by horse people themselves. With this advantage over a manufacturer, who builds floats to just create a job, and has no real experience with horses, we therefore feel this is the reason our floats are un-surpassed in the workmanship and quality. We want your Writco to be a joy, not a battle for years to come!!
